Many people are interested in blogging today.  It’s a great idea to have a blog of your own where you can post your thoughts, video, audio clips, and images for your favorite hobby, topic, or even your personal life.  If you want a blog, you are going to need to know how to start a blog to get everything set up properly.

The first tip is to answer the three questions you need to answer before setting up your blog.

What is the blog going to be about?

Before you begin have an idea what your blog is about.  It should be focused on a specific topic or idea instead of being random about anything and everything.

How often are you going to post to it?

This is something you should figure out.  Have a schedule in mind.  You might post once or twice a week for example.  Many people start off a new blog with good intentions then get out of the habit of posting because they don’t have schedule.

What do you want to accomplish?

This blog might have the purpose of building a community of readers that interact with your content.  You might also be building a blog to help make some extra money.  This should be answered before you start.

The second tip is to find the platform to use for your blog.  There are free platforms and ones that you have to pay for.

The free ones like Blogspot are easier to get set up and don’t cost anything.  This is typically easier for brand new bloggers.  The downside is that these types of blogs can disappear at any time which is utterly frustrating.

There are paid platforms as well.  These are scripts like WordPress and Drupal.  You have to have your own hosting and domain to set these up.  For new users this is a bit complicated but in the long run this is the best option.

Lastly, be sure that you personalize your blog.  Get a theme or template that is different than what other people are using.  Have graphics made for your blog to really make it yours.  This sets your blog apart from all the other millions that are on the internet.
